Betty Lemen Kenney

Betty Lemen Kenney, 94, recently of Penney Farms, FL and a longtime resident of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away February 10, 2015. She was born on April 1, 1920 in Little Rock, AR to parents William Tolin, Sr. and Kathleen Kelly Lemen. Mrs. Kenney was a graduate of Clay County High School and of Jones Business College, worked as an executive secretary for the Director of Florida State Department of Health and for the longtime employee of the Florida Division of Children and Family Services. Mrs. Kenney was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Green Cove Springs where she served on the Altar Guild and was Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the VIA in Green Cove Springs, serving in many of their official offices. Mrs. Kenney was a past-president of the Clay County Historical Society and was instrumental in acquiring the caboose and the Rail Road Museum. She was a former board member and past-president of the Council on Aging of Clay County and in her free time she enjoyed painting, especially watercolors. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, William Francis Kenney, Sr. and brother, William Tolin Lemen, Jr. Survivors include her son, William Francis Kenney, Jr. (Patricia); daughters, Kathleen Kenney Gordon (Kipp) and Susan Kenney Bowman Nobile (Glynn); grandchildren, Kelly Maureen Kenney, William Francis Kenney III (Jenny), Stephen Michael Gordon (Erin), Matthew Evans Kenney (Janet), Megan Elizabeth Raulston (Ronald), Scott Chandler Gordon (Alexandra), Brooke Elizabeth Bowman and William Spencer Bowman, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, February 13, 2015 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 14, 2015 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 400 St. Johns Ave., Green Cove Springs with The Rev. Celeste R. Tisdelle officiating. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery. A Reception will be held at the VIA, 17 N. Palmetto Ave. following the services. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.broadusraines.com.
