Gerald H. Trane

GERALD H. TRANE 72, died unexpectedly March 12, 2015. He was born May 14, 1942 in Lacrosse, WI. to Rosemary (Hulett) and R.J. Trane. His early youth was spent outside Scranton, Pa., he attended the Choate preparatory school and then the University of Florida earning a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering. His early career was spent in the IT area of the Pro Brush division of SOHIO in Western Mass. and Star Expansion Co. in New York State. He left manufacturing to follow a dream of building boats with his brother Rueben Trane in south Florida. They started the Florida Bay Coaster Co. which eventually located on the Saint John’s River in Green Cove Springs. Economic down turns ended the “boat” building but Gerry converted his creative energies into a custom cabinetry business- Fit ‘n Function. With his crew of talented carpenters and his engineering expertise he enjoyed a rewarding life of independent craftsmanship. Gerry is predeceased by his two sons, Gerry Trane, Jr. and Alexander Trane. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley of 35 years and two daughters, C. Lynn Smith and Paige Hopkins, and four grandchildren, Ashlynn and Sidney Smith 4th and Wingate and Grier Hopkins. He is also survived by his brothers R. Nicholas and Reuben James Trane and his sister Elizabeth (Trane) Race and many nieces, nephews and other family members. Gerry was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him in work, church or play- he was a blessing to us all, young and old alike. The celebration of Gerry’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. on the River Bank at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Green Cove Springs, FL. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Safe Animal Shelter 2913 County Road 220, Middleburg, Fl. 32068. (The oldest no-kill shelter in Clay County). Please sign the family’s online register book at www.broadusraines.com.
