Mapel Belcher Edwards

Mapel Belcher Edwards, 89, passed away on March 13, 2015. She was born on January 16, 1926 in Haysi, Virginia to parents John R. and Margaret (Boyd) Belcher. Ms. Edwards lived in Florida for 42 years when she relocated to make her home in Haysi. Mapel returned to Green Cove Springs for health reasons many years later and became a member at Little Ruth Old Regular Baptist Church where she loved her church family. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, sewing and gardening. Ms. Edwards was also a member of the quilting club in Haysi. She cherished time spent with her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Mapel will always be remembered with love for her sweet hospitality. Ms. Edwards is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lassie M. Edwards in 1991, daughter Thanna J. Lancaster in 1987 and granddaughter Victoria Jewell Arnold in 1998. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Y. Geiger & husband Michael; four sisters, Eulalia Lee & husband Earl, Ival Anderson & husband Banner, Betty Long, and Nancy Edwards & husband Darvin; two brothers Berchie Belcher & wife Nadean and Clayton Belcher & wife Lucille; six grandchildren Tracy Turner & wife Heather, Dewayne Arnold & wife Monica, Billy Arnold & wife Stacey, Rebecca Adams, Murray Lancaster and Joey Lancaster & wife Shellie; sixteen great-grandchildren Blake, Bryce, Jewelia, Riley, Lilly, Aiden, Ava Marie, Mikey, Matthew, Mason, Luke, Alyssa, Megan, Coleton, Brittany and Tiffany with many other nieces and nephews and loving family and friends. The visitation will be held Monday, March 16, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will be held in Haysi, Virginia at a later date.
