Placida Eladia Vazquez

d. April 5, 2015

Plácida Eladia Vazquez Rodriguez, (Lala) Lala was born in Barranquitas, PR on: 8/7/30. She was the 12th of 13 siblings. Died on April 5, 2015. She married Julián Rivera Berrios, who had recently joined the Army. They had 3 children (one died at birth). They travelled and lived in Panama, South Carolina and Florida, USA and finally settled in PR. Lala was a beautiful, elegant, loving, caring, strong and independent woman. To her, family always came first. She would help anyone who came to her with a problem (even strangers). She was a loyal friend, loved and respected by all in the community. She was a religious woman and practicing Catholic who seldom missed Sunday mass for most of her life. Excellent mother, friend and confidant. Her main joy was the achievements and happiness of her children. She and Dad loved to play domino and when teamed together, were a serious challenge to anyone trying to defeat them. Her favorite hobbies were reading, sewing and crochet beautiful bed and table covers. Loved to travel, sightseeing the countryside visit friends and family. She took care of our Dad for six years after he was stricken with heart disease and strokes. Drove daily to the VA Hospital to be at his side and make sure he was well taken care of during the last two years of his life. After our Dad passed away, she volunteered at the Barranquitas Municipal & Mayor’s Office for approximately 2 years. She worked as Translator, Receptionist, meeting and helping the townspeople, and on occasions, represented the Mayor at Gubernatorial Activities. She was involved in politics and felt strongly for her party. Also did volunteer work at the Quebradillas Elderly Day Care Center, at the local High School Library and at the Civil Defense Head Quarters in town. In her later years, she spent time with her daughter and son, traveling between Delaware, Florida and Maryland. But she always returned home as she missed her house, her neighbors and the fond memories she had there. She met Don Luis who became Mom’s best friend and admirer for all these years. A true gentleman in all aspects, Don Luis gained our trust and respect becoming part of our family. Heaven has gained a very special soul and we have lost a loving Mother, friend and confidant. She was born to Eternity on Easter Sunday. What a glorious day to be with our Lord!!! She is once again whole, reunited with our Dad and all her relatives in God's presence. I'm sure they were waiting for her and what a celebration it must have been!!! Mom, we miss you dearly but rest assured you will continue to live in our hearts through the precious memories you helped create. You are just a smile and a thought away. Rest in peace. Lala is survived by her siblings, Baiba (Braulin), Teresa and Martha; grandchildren, Miguel Antonio Rivera (Miguelo), Elma (Mindy) Rivera, Monica Espinosa, Natalia Christina Rivera (Nati), Maria Del Mar Rivera (Mari) and Christina Del Mar Rivera (Cristi); great-grandchildren, Tashira Malave Rivera, Thalia Malave Rivera, Tania Malave Rivera and Drake Molford Rivera.
