Irvin William "Fergie" Ferguson

Fergie passed away April 15, 2015 in the Moosehaven Life Care Center at the age of 92. He was born to Carl and Vera Ferguson on June 26, 1922 in Malone, New York. Shortly after graduation from High School, Fergie joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. He saw duty in England, North Africa and Italy servicing aircrafts. He was Honorably Discharged on October 24, 1945. He attended flying school in Santa Monica, California and after he obtained his pilot’s license he met Margaret Zollinhofer in Clinton, Maryland where he was flying for the Washington Star newspaper. Fergie married Margaret Zollinhofer on December 20, 1974 in Waterford, Connecticut. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2009. He later married Avis Rasmussen on March 4, 2011. The two met while living at Moosehaven, where they shared four wonderful years. Fergie was a heavy duty construction equipment operator, maintenance man and pilot. He was a flight instructor and Charter pilot until he suffered multiple injuries in a flight related accident. He became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose when he joined the Clearwater, Florida Lodge #1030. He became very active, serving as Trustee and Treasure performing many volunteer tasks around the lodge. He later moved his membership to Lakeshore-Orange Park, Florida Lodge #2020. Fergie was on the Ritual Team at Lodge 2020 and Opportunity Lodge where they won 2nd place for about 20 years. Fergie came to Moosehaven with wife Margaret on September 19, 1989 where he resided for 25 years. He is survived by his wife Avis Ferguson, Moosehaven resident, Orange Park, Florida and step daughter Carla Hartz of Stuart, Florida, step son Mike Rasmussen and sister in law, BJ Ferguson of Rumford, Maine, nephew Darrell Ferguson of West Newfield, Maine. Memorial Services held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 2:00pm in the Moosehaven Chapel. Services conducted by Rev. Helen Taylor and Officers of Opportunity Lodge.
