Eugene L. Smith

Past Supreme Governor Eugene L. Smith passed away April 16, 2015 in the Moosehaven Life Care Center at the age of 85. He was born to Clayton and Lillian Smith on September 28, 1929 in Fremont, Ohio. Gene became affiliated with the Moose in 1954, when he joined Elkhart, Indiana Lodge 599. After serving in all elected chairs and committees, he became Secretary/Manager of the Lodge in 197l; he became a Life Member in 1976. He served as Past Supreme Governor and Pilgrim Governor of the Loyal Order of Moose during 2003-2004; after having served the fraternity as Supreme Governor during 1991-92. He was Past President of the Indiana Moose Association, member of Tippecanoe Moose Legion 96 (IN), and Past Deputy Grand North Moose. He served in all offices of Tippecanoe, as well as on its Ritual staff. He received the Fellowship Degree of Honor in 1961 and the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 1969. Gene served on the International Civic Affairs Committee (now Community Service Committee) in 1982, before being elected to the Supreme Council in 1983. Gene was also a member of the 700 Division of the Moose 25 Club. Gene came to Moosehaven on January 7, 2013 where he resided for 2 year. He is survived by his longtime companion, Donna Miller of Elkhart, Indiana, three children, Rick, Mark and Suzanne and one brother, Bruce Smith. A memorial will be held at the Elkhart, Indiana Moose Lodge (date to be determined) followed by burial in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart, Indiana.
