Leonard L. "Lenny" Koon

Leonard L. “Lenny” Koon, 75, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away Friday, January 9, 2009. He was born on January 24, 1933 in Tenmile, WV to parents, Jesse and Elsie Koon. Mr. Koon was a Korean War Veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He was retired Civil Service from the U.S. Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. and had moved to the local area in 1995 from Northern, VA. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Orange Park, FL and loved to travel. He had helped establish the EPWSC in Manassas, VA and coached football and little league. He also formerly owned a driving school and a TV repair shop. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Virgil A. Koon. Survivors include his wife, Betty Koon of Fleming Island; sons, Leonard “Lenny J.” Jesse Koon of Fleming Island, Gary L. Koon of Fleming Island and Kevin L. Koon (Kimberly) of King George, VA and 5 grandchildren, Katie, Kassie, Katherin, Anna and Christian. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 112 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL 32073 with Pastor Roy V.I. Harris officiating. Military honors will be conferred at the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church for the General Fund. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, FL (904) 284-4000. Please deliver all flowers to the church.
