Richard “Ski” Veniskey, 60, of Fleming Island, FL passed away July 19, 2015. He was born on August 21, 1954 in Rochester, NY to the late Albert and Theresa (Oster) Veniskey. Mr. Veniskey was a retired Command Master Chief in the United States Navy, retiring after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He moved to the local area in 1999 and was of the Catholic faith. He was a Mason and a member of the Morocco Shrine where he was Mickey Mouse in the Cartoon Capers. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Fleet Reserve. In his free time he enjoyed helping children and was known by all as Pop-Pop. He loved his grandchildren dearly and loved spending time at Disney World when he wasn’t doing yardwork. Mr. Veniskey was an avid Yankees fan and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Esther Veniskey and his brothers, Tim and Danny Veniskey. Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Veniskey; daughter, Lorrie Veniskey; brother, David Veniskey (Michelle); sister, Karen Wells and granddaughters, Christina and Rachel. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 31, 2015 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating. Inurnment with full military honors will take place at 2:00 pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32218.
