William B. "Poppy" Smith

William B. “Poppy” Smith, 80, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away on Saturday August 29, 2015 in Hollister, FL. He was born on November 23, 1934 in Cohoes, NY to parents William L. and Ellen L. (Baker) Smith and had lived in Green Cove Springs for the last 45 years coming from Pittstown, NY. He was retired from the Clay County School Board after 19 years of service. William was an avid Florida Gator fan, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Debbie Smith; granddaughter, Erica Smith; great-grandsons, Christopher Price Smith and Kyle Coleman and his late wife Janet Smith. William is survived by the mother of his children, Barbara Roberts; sons, Leigh (Debby) Smith and Paul (Gail) Smith; daughters, Tammie (Buddy) Holbrook, Laurie (Donald) Sharp and Lisa Smith; Grandchildren, Steven (Gloria) Smith, Jackie (Teresa) Chesser, Colt (Shaunna) Taylor, Stormie (Bryan) O’Steen, Jamie (Danny) Krantz, Shawna Stansberry, Jonathan Stansberry, Michelle (Lance) Kramer, Terri Lynn (Mark) Cannon and Allen (Angela) Stansberry; 20 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Reverend Tim Hall officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
