Art passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 8:45 PM in the Moosehaven Life Care Center at the age of 92. He was born to Thomas and Jessie Van Horn on July 25, 1916 in Silver Springs, MD. Art served in the Army in World War II in France. He was shot twice and received the Purple Heart. Art was a plumber contractor and owned his own business. He had a logo for his business “Don’t go slumming for pluming Call Van Horn”. He retired in 1981. Art enjoyed playing a guitar and singing country western songs. He loved to dance. Art had a great since of humor and enjoyed telling and hearing jokes. Art married Dolly Van Horn on December 31, 1972. They have two children, Jim Mills and Pam Bransfeld. He became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose in August 31, 1951 when he joined Wheaton, MD Lodge #1775. He later was asked to go to the new College Park, MD Lodge # 453 as Govonor in 1956-1957. Later they transfered to Tarpon Springs, FL Lodge #1429. Art received his Life time membership while he was at Tarpon Springs on September 25, 2001. Art and Dolly came to Moosehaven on May 31, 2006 where they have resided for 2 years and 8 months.
