Jaye Thompson Barrett, 62, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009. Mrs. Barrett was born in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone, on October 1, 1946. She was a graduate of Balboa High School in Balboa, Canal Zone. She moved first to Miami, then to Jacksonville, FL in 1967 and married John R. Barrett, her high school sweetheart, at Sacred Heart Church on the Westside. She traveled around the U.S. with her family as her husband was transferred with various assignments for UPS. She was a talented artist and enjoyed working with watercolors, wood sculpting, and crocheting. She also served on the Architectural Design Board for Pace Island. She was passionate about animals, nature, and wildlife and she was a contributor to the Audubon Society and World Wildlife Fund. Mrs. Barrett was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, John R. Barrett; by her father, James M. Thompson; mother, Bonnie K. Wilson; and younger sister, Rebecca Sorenson. She is survived by her daughter, Jayme A. Barrett; brother, William Thompson; and aunt, Jeanene Zimmerman. Graveside inurnment will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, March 23, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fleming Island officiated by Father Donal Sullivan.
