Elmer C. Thacker, 84, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009. He was born on October 21, 1924 in Drill, VA to parents, Hibbert and Amy Thacker. He was a World War II Veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He has been in the local area for the past 57 years and worked for 25 years as a welder at the Jacksonville Ship Yard. Mr. Thacker enjoyed hunting, fishing, gun and coin collecting and was a member of the VFW Post 1988 in Green Cove Springs, FL. He attended Little Ruth Old Regular Baptist Church and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Steven E. Thacker. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lorene G. Thacker; son, Paul R. Thacker (Teresa); siblings, Sadie McDade, Fay Burke, Lucy Ashley, Ralph Thacker, Ronald Thacker and Estle Thacker; grandchildren, Zachary, Jason and Jeffery Thacker and Brandy Foster and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Haley, Caleb and Keira. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Little Ruth Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Terry Fuller, Albert Hamilton and Doug McCarty officiating.
