Alan Robert Vogt, 85, of St. Augustine, FL, passed away December 17, 2015. He was born on March 24, 1930 in Elizabeth, NJ to parents Charles and Margaret (Benzing) Vogt. From a young age and throughout his life, Mr. Vogt was always eager to serve and help others. He served proudly in his community at the age of 10 as an airplane spotter with the US Army Aircraft Warning Service keeping watch for enemy planes during World War II. Mr. Vogt was a Korean War Veteran, having served his country in the United States Army. He was a volunteer firefighter for 20 years with the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Department, NJ, and served as Fire Chief from 1964-1965. He also served on the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department, NJ. Mr. Vogt volunteered with The Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs for 6 years and was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Fleming Island before becoming a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in St. Augustine. He was employed for 30 years as a respected sales and marketing manager for Johns Manville. He loved being with his family and playing golf. We will forever miss his laugh and smile. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Carl and Ralph Vogt, and daughter, Linda Vogt Richmond. Survivors include his wife, Margaret McVey Vogt; children, Robert Alan Vogt (June), Brian John Vogt (Kim), Diana Vogt O’Brien, Alan Charles Vogt, Janice Vogt Sabin (Michael) and Eric Thomas Vogt (Angela); son-in-law, Dave Richmond; grandchildren, Pat Richmond, Sam Richmond, Katie Richmond, Lindsey Vogt, Paul Vogt, Ashley Vogt, Brittney Vogt Fortner, Audrey Batcheller, Amanda Vogt Leonard, John Vogt, Peggy Vogt Ham, Kyle O’Brien, Keenan O’Brien, Erica O’Brien, Charles Sabin, Rose Sabin, Grace Sabin and Chase Vogt and great-grandchildren, Ava Vogt, Sara Beth Leonard, and Emma Kate Leonard. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 7190 Hwy. 17 South, Fleming Island, FL 32003 with Fr. Edward Rooney and Fr. Donal Sullivan as concelebrants. Military honors will be given at the service. Inurnment will follow in the Sacred Heart Columbarium.
