Warren Thurman passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 6:51 AM in Orange Park, Florida at the age of 88. He was born to George and Carita Thurman on March 4, 1921 in Gering, NE. Warren served in the United States Army in 1941 - 1942. Warren married Ina May Gorman on August 1, 1940 in Harrisburg, NE. They had three children; two sons, Thomas and Gerald and one daughter, Georgia. In Warren’s earlier years he worked on farms and ranches in the sand hills and later in the Mitchell valley. He was employed by Masek Auto Supply in Gering for 20 years before he retired in 1983. Warren was very civic minded and served as President of Jaycees, and President of Gering, Nebraksa Volunteer Fireman. He loved watching sports on TV and reading books. Warren became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose in December 20, 1968 when he joined Scottsbluff, NE Lodge #459. He was also a member of Moose Pioneer Legion #99 in Wyoming, NE where he served as President; Warren was very active in the Moose Lodge. He was a member of the 25 club and was Past Governor. On July 1, 1973 he received his Fellowship Degree of Honor and on May 31, 1986 he achieved the highest honor of the fraternity, the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. He was also Past President of the Nebraska Moose Legion. Warren and Ina came to Moosehaven on January 5, 1998 where he resided for 11 years. He was an asset to Moosehaven’s Maintenance Department for many years, working both in the maintenance shop and bike shop. Warren is survived by his sons, Thomas and wife Patricia Thurman, of Sun City, Calif., Gerald and wife Sharon Thurman, of Scottsbluff, his much loved 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren.
