Gordon "Gordie" P Schaedel

Gordon “Gordie” P. Schaedel, 92, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away at his home on January 3, 2016. He was born in Chicago, IL on January 8, 1923 to the late Edward A. and Rose (Walsh) Schaedel. He came to the area in 2000 from Tennessee and was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Gordie was a Staff Sergeant aviation mechanic in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific during WWII. Before retiring, he worked for General Electric for 33 years. Gordie loved boating and photography. He was a caring man that taught the family well. Gordie is preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Mildred. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife of 24 years, Lorraine; sons, John (Linda) and Jim (Sharon) Schaedel; step-daughters, Janice (Kent) Rowland and Joanne (Ken) Towery; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 7190 Highway 17 Fleming Island, FL. Family visitation will follow the mass.
