Captain Edwin Earl McDonald, Jr. DDS
MCDONALD – Edwin Earl McDonald, Jr. DDS, Captain, Dental Corps, US Navy Retired, passed away on January 6, 2016. He was 83 years old. Dr. McDonald was born in Albany, Georgia, the son of Edwin McDonald Sr. and Marjorie Inman and graduated from Albany High School. He received his dental education at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from the School of Dentistry in 1956. Dr. McDonald entered the Navy after completing dental school and rose to the rank of Captain, serving in a variety of assignments at sea and shore over a distinguished 26-year career. While in the Navy, he was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He was also a member of the Association of Military Surgeons of The United States.
Dr. McDonald retired from the Navy in 1981, where he served as Commanding Officer, Naval Regional Dental Center, Jacksonville, Florida. Upon his retirement, he received the Legion of Merit for meritorious conduct in the performance of duty. Following naval retirement, he was in private dental practice until 1994. He was a member of the Northeast District Dental Association, The Florida Dental Association, and a life Member of the American Dental Association.
Dr. McDonald is survived by his wife, Sally Morris McDonald, his former wife Kathleen Molony McDonald, mother of his three sons – Edwin Earl McDonald III of Miami Beach, Florida; John Terence McDonald (and his wife Deanna and granddaughter Erin Elizabeth) of Jacksonville, Florida; and Thomas Randall McDonald (granddaughter Lydia Kathleen) of Lakeland, Florida.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 11 am for a Memorial Service with full military honors in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
