Elliott “Edward” Lane, 90, of Middleburg, FL, passed away January 10, 2016. He was born on November 17, 1925 in Jacksonville, FL to parents Wilson and Gladys (Whatley) Lane. He was a World War II Veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy. He graduated from the University of Florida in 2 and ½ years and worked as a comptroller for the Duval County School Board and had been a member of First Baptist Church of Middleburg for 39 years. He was a member of the Solomon Masonic Lodge #20 for over 50 years; a member of the Charles E. Bennett VFW Post #1689 and was a 10 gallon blood donor. He and his wife loved spending time at the Weigel Senior Center in Middleburg and he will be missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Sarah “Sally” Lane; children, Jack Hawkins (Toni) of Treasure Island, FL, Robert Hawkins (Patricia) of Salem, WI, Billy Joe Hawkins of Grosse Tete, LA, Wayne Hawkins (Debbie) of Brooksville, FL, David Hawkins, Sr. of Largo, FL, Lon Hawkins of Middleburg, FL, Richard Hawkins (Brenda) of Orange Park, FL, Thomas Hawkins, Sr. (Elaine) of Bryceville, FL, Donna Lane Emery (Richard) of Victor, MT, and Elliott Lane Jr. and Roger Lane, both of Fresno, CA; sister, Audrey Lane Hartley (Wesley) of Gainesville, FL; 29 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 14, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Middleburg with Rev. Tim Martin officiating. Visitation will be in the church from 10:00 am until service time. Military honors will be presented at the church. Interment will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
