David "Vergil" Chesser

David “Vergil” Chesser, 85, of Green Cove Springs, Florida passed away on February 4, 2016 in Orange Park, Florida. He was born in Fort Pierce, Florida on September 4, 1930 to Robert Edward Chesser and Rachel O’Steen Chesser. Vergil was of the Baptist faith and member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a hard worker and a firm believer of being on time. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Vergil is predeceased by his parents, brothers, Oliver, Otis, Herman and Norris and sister, Ava. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Haire Chesser; sons, David Chesser and Norris “Frog” Chesser (Lyn); daughters, Norma Jean Chesser, Carolyn Sue Shelton (Randy) and Anita Jo Gillyard (Daniel); sister, Elnora Young; grandchildren, Shelly Lee, Shannie Ennis, Shawn Ennis, Chad Wager, Jason Eugene Wager, Rusty Lee Wager, Michael Shelton, Tracy Shelton, Jared Gillyard, Alaina Gillyard, Cody Gillyard, Caleb Gillyard, Rachel Anne Deel and Crystal Lyn Rice and great-grandchildren, Annika, Vance, and Jameson Ennis, Brooke and Brynne Lee, Thomas J., Wesley, Nathaniel E., Gavin C., Payton L., Megan S. and Zeth P. Wager, Devin Craig, Rebecca Faith, Keera Hope, Josiah Seth, Grace Abigail, and Isaac Nathaniel Gillyard, Silas James Mitchell, Jacob Ellis and Blake Chesser Deel, and McKenzie Kaylyn and Karter Justin Rice. Vergil’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Pastor Marc Swarthout and Pastor Glen Martin officiating. Pallbearers are Chad Wager, Jason Wager, Rusty Wager, Shawn Ennis, Jared Gillyard and Cody Gillyard. Jeff Daniels, James Cox, Donnie Harvey, Steve Thomas, Randy Haire, Jeffrey Deel, Kyle Rice, Carl Smith and Mike Knight will act as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
