Brother Lafayette Royal, 91, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away February 11, 2016. He was born on October 15, 1924 in Coffee County, GA to parents Daniel and Ella (Carter) Royal.
Mr. Royal moved to the local area in 1949 from Coffee County, GA. He was a founding member of Wesconnett Assembly of God as well as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He loved telling stories, was an avid witness for the Lord and an extremely charitable soul. Mr. Royal was a World War II Veteran serving his country in the United States Army. He was wounded during his service and received the Purple Heart and the CIB. He was a retired Union carpenter who truly loved his family and church and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by 7 siblings. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Norene Royal; son, Jeffery Lafayette Royal; daughter, Linda S. Royal (Antonio Ramos Ramirez); brother, Earlie Royal; sisters, Janet Wittkamp, Vonell Tallmage, Eloise Gattis and Elnettia Reed and grandchild, Clara Norene Ramos Royal (Ely Saleck).
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Wesconnett Assembly of God, 5829 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32244 with Pastor Mark E. Stockburger officiating. The family will receive friends in the church from 3:00 pm until service time. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, Orange Park, FL at 11:00 am Monday, February 15, 2016.
