Ben Young

Ben Young, 76, of Yulee, FL, passed away February 26, 2016. He was born on July 22, 1939 in Humboldt, TN to parents Walter Thomas and Sophie Cook (Davis) Young. Ben came to the area from Rota, Spain in 1983, was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. He loved to fish, to read western books, watch western movies and enjoyed all kinds of music. Ben loved old cars and considered himself a backyard mechanic. He saw the world after 24 years of honorable service in the United States Navy before retiring. Ben received the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, National Defense Service medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary medal with Bronze Star (Quemoy and Matsu Islands) and five Good Conduct awards throughout his Naval career. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Italia “Ida” Young in 2005 and by his siblings. Ben is survived by his two children, Steve Louis Young and Lisa S. Stoddard(Kevin); and his two grandchildren, Alex and Gabe Stoddard. A memorial service with military honors will be held at the Broadus-Raines Chapel Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating.
