Margaret Lynne Pruett (Peggy) died on Monday, April 27th, 2009.
Peggy was born on September 24, 1960 in Atlanta, Georgia. Soon after, her family moved to Pine Island, Florida, where Peggy grew up, and graduated from high school. Upon graduation, she attended Stetson University where she graduated with a Music Degree in 1982. Peggy then moved to Clay County where she lived devoting her time and energy to her growing family.
When all of her 4 sons were in school, Peggy began her teaching career as a Music teacher at Ridgeview Elementary School. Except for one year as a Music teacher at Thunderbolt Elementary, Peggy taught her other 13 years at Ridgeview. She had a tremendous love of teaching music to children and enjoyed watching music touch and become part of their lives. Peggy pursued and became a National Board Certified Teacher of Music and also enjoyed the title of “Teacher of the Year” at Ridgeview.
Her love of music and singing was far reaching. She loved singing solos, being in choirs and choruses, including Murray Hill Baptist Church, First Coast Chorus, and One Accord. Peggy also loved “her girls” from Murray Hill and had the special honor of watching them grow up, singing in some of their weddings, and seeing them establish their families. “Her girls” were a very special part of her life.
Peggy had a wonderful, warm personality that touched many lives and a contagious smile that continued throughout her life. She gave comfort to everyone who visited her through her smile, her positive attitude, her courage to live, her acceptance of the daily challenges she encountered, and her unending ability to show concern and love to all those who loved her. Peggy never let a day go by that she didn’t say, “I love you” and “Thank you”, even when all she could do was whisper.
A rare and aggressive cancer took Peggy from us. She is survived by her best friend and companion, Nancy Sirmons; sons Steven (Alayna), Matthew, Travis (Ashley), and Kevin; mother, Kathryn; sister, Marilyn (Glenn); brother, Michael (April); nieces and nephews, Mandy (Ed), Mark (Amanda); Autumn, Connor; great nieces and nephew, Erin, Brooke, and Derek, and a most special little puppy: Jessie. Peggy is also survived by her boys’ loving and devoted grandfather, Cameron Paulk (Pop-Pop), as well as their kind and devoted aunt, Karen Paulk, who visited her very often.
Peggy also has been blessed with many, many faithful, loving and wonderful friends, whom she loved dearly, especially the Grays, News, Bradleys and Glee. She also loved her special “angel”, Barb, who was sent her way to sit with her, take her to chemo, and take care of her throughout her stay at home. Peggy was extremely grateful for and continually humbled by her “family” of teachers, staff, and administrators from Ridgeview Elementary who loved, supported, and “gave” to her throughout her illness.
