Herb Alward, 84, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009. He was born on November 6, 1924 in Detroit, MI to parents, Leslie and Dorothy Alward. Mr. Alward served his country in the United States Marine Corps and following his service, he opened his business, Air Comfort Inc. in 1948 in Sarasota, FL. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed boating, the water, mountains and being a licensed pilot. Mr. Alward moved to the local area in June of 2004 from Sarasota and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 23 ½ years, Cheryl Alward; children, Chris Alward, Frank Alward, Candace Rice, Jeff Alward, Sean Larkin and Scott Larkin; brother, Robert Alward; nephew, Jimmy Thompson; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will have a gathering of friends at their home from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to The Michael J.
