G.W. Whitson

G.W. Whitson, 85, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away at home on July 2, 2016. He was born on June 12, 1931 in Knoxville, TN to the late Enoch Walter and Mary Ollie Whitson. He was a member of the Congregational Holiness Church, a hardworking man and great electrician. Mr. Whitson was a gentle soul that loved to help others, was kind, loving and compassionate. He enjoyed gardening and growing his own vegetables. Mr. Whitson is a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ruby Annie Whitson; 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Mr. Whitson is survived by his children, Patricia (Edwin) Shedd, Debra (Ricky) Cox, Clayton (Vickie) Whitson and Brenda (Jim) Mock; sister, Eva Dezearn; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends in the Broadus-Raines Chapel on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Congregational Holiness Church, 2079 State Road 16 W, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043 with Reverend Ronnie Surrency and Reverend Larry Hall officiating.
