On the beautiful, sunny afternoon of July 23, David “Andy” Anfinson passed away peacefully in his home and was finally able to join his wife, Cindy, in heaven. Andy enjoyed an eventful 74 years.
Andy was born on February 27, 1942 in Fargo, North Dakota, to Mayme and Raymond Anfinson. He was born into a large family as the 2nd of ten children. He was a student of Warren Alvarado Oslo, class of 1960. Those who knew him best are not surprised to hear that he was an exceptionally feisty young man who at the age of 17, was compelled to claim his independence by joining the U.S. Navy where he worked in aviation. After an illustrious career beginning in Warren, Minnesota and ending Jacksonville, Florida, he retired after an impressive 33 years of combined service.
Fishing was Andy’s longest love affair. In his prime, he spent long, happy hours throwing out a line in the St. John’s River with his friend, Mike McNeil. Happily, he brought home many, many prize-winning bass who were, much to Chad’s dismay, the unfortunate guests of the dinner table. It is Andy’s sincere pleasure to share a final fish fry with his friends and loved ones in celebration of his life.
Andy was an avid golfer who enjoyed local courses, as well as traveling to various courses in Myrtle Beach, Daytona, Palm Coast, with his many friends. If there are courses in heaven, we can be assured that Andy probably already has a tee time.
Second to fishing was his love of woodworking. On most days, you could find Andy in his garage single-handedly giving the birds and bats of Green Cove Springs a home to call their own.
Among Andy’s greatest accomplishments are his three sons, Billy, Paul and Chad. He was fiercely proud of their lives and their many accomplishments. It was his greatest honor to serve as both their father and their friend, and if you look at them, you find it evident that his job was well-done.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, and his beloved wife, Cindy. He is survived by his sons (Billy, Paul, and Chad), four sisters (Beverly, Kathy, Laura, and Elaine), and four grandchildren (Stacie, Jamie, Delaney, and Caden).
