Raymond “Gene” Owens, 85, of Middleburg, FL, passed away August 30, 2016. He was born on July 14, 1931 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Arthur Raymond and Madeline Force (White) Owens. Mr. Owens was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of Black Pond Baptist Church. He loved to draw and everyone he knew seemed to have a “Gene wall”. He was a family man that loved his friends and the Lord. Mr. Owens loved old cars and he never met a stranger, his family says. He had a long career in the military starting with 3 years in the United States Navy and over twenty years in the Air Force before retiring. Mr. Owens also invented and patented a part for hydraulics in air planes while in the Air Force. To know him was to love him.
Mr. Owens is survived by his wife of 27 years together, Pamela Anne Owens; son, John Owens (Kimberly); daughter, Julie Owens; step-children, Scott Dietzman, Robert Kersey, Jr. and Melissa Linder (Joseph); 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Black Pond Baptist Church, 3644 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg, FL 32068 with Reverend Charlie Hunt and Reverend Jason Brown officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11am. Interment with full military honors will follow in Black Pond Cemetery.
