Josie Skipper Cowart

Josie Skipper Cowart, 87, of Green Cove Springs, Florida passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, October 14, 2016. Josie was born on December 15, 1928 in New Smyrna, Florida to parents Jessie Carl Skipper and Nina Marie Lyons Skipper. She came to the area in 2005, relocating from Brevard County and was of the Southern Baptist faith, attending Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Josie was a proud member of the Florida Historical Society and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She loved being in her garden and reading her favorite books. She cherished her family and loved time spent with them. Josie is preceded in death by her parents, and her best friend and loving husband of 45 years, Robert Ray Cowart. She is survived by her son, Richard L. Burkett and wife, Susan; daughter, Jo Lynn Vance; brother, Chester L. Skipper and wife, Carol, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Franklin officiating.
