Bertha "Bert" Maulden Driggers Gardner

November 18, 1916 — July 18, 2009

Bertha "Bert" M. (Driggers) Gardner, age 92, surrounded by her family, gently went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2009. Born in Brooks County, GA, she was the oldest daughter and the “Second Mama” to her 7 siblings in the Maulden family. Bertha was married to Thomas W. Driggers for 21 years, and they had 3 children (Watson Driggers (deceased), Hoyte “Butch” Driggers of Middleburg, and Jane Ann Driggers Covington Beaudry of Atlanta) who were all raised in Jacksonville. At age 46, she married Pat Gardner and moved to San Francisco. In 1970, she returned to Florida to be closer to her family. Bertha was an outstanding Christian woman, selflessly caring for others throughout her life. Full of Faith, she always “walked her talk,” and was a life long member of the Church of Christ. She was truly beautiful inside and out; a magnificent example to all. She was known as “an angel on earth,” full of unconditional love. Her wisdom, excellent common sense, insight, flexibility, patience, lifelong learning interests, adventurous nature, joy, and humor was apparent to all. Her gracious, humble, grateful heart was immense. She is also survived by 2 sisters (Wilma Zahalka of Nashville, TN, and Nathalie “Ned” Fallin of Lakeland, FL) and 2 brothers (Hoyt P. Maulden of Brooksville, FL, and Charles B. Maulden of Lakeland, FL); 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. Graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Riverside Memorial Park (South Section). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northeast Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32257. Please sign the family’s online register book at www.broadusraines.com.
