Doris Cornelia "Connie" Chapman

June 18, 1933 — December 10, 2016

Doris Cornelia (Connie) Chapman passed from this earth into the arms of her Lord and Savior on December 10, 2016.  She was home under the watchful care of her niece Kathy Chapman Allen and the caring personnel of Vitas hospice. She was born June 18, 1933 to Ernest Morgan (Jack) Chapman and Alice Beatrice Littlejohn Chapman in Green Cove Springs, Fl. She was never married. She was a hard worker. She was employed by the Naval Exchange System for 40 years. She started right out of high school at the Exchange on the old Navy base in Green Cove Springs, relocated to NAS and retired from the Kings Bay, Ga. Exchange. After retiring from there she went to work for two of her old bosses as the office manager for The Parts House. She worked there another 20 years until she retired. Not being one to stay idle very long she became a Fleet Driver for the Garber Auto Mall and did some consulting work at The Parts House until her physical condition caused her to retire again. She fought off dementia the last days here on earth. She was truly a free spirit and loved to travel. She was an active and dedicated member of Deermeadows Baptist Church. She served on many committees but especially enjoyed working Vacation Bible School every year. She loved her God and her church. She drove the church bus for the seniors on their outings. She loved people in general but children were her favorites to watch.     She is preceded in death by her parents, her 4 brothers, Joe Chapman, Roger Chapman, Bobby Chapman, James Thomas (Billy) Chapman and 2 sisters Jackie Chapman Redding and Floyce Chapman Bennett, 5 nephews, 1 niece and 1 great-niece. She is survived by 3 half-sisters and 1 half-brother and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nephews and nieces, and a few great-greats.   There will be two funeral services available for you to attend:   Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Deermeadows Baptist Church, 9780 Baymeadows Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32256 with Dr. Larry Yarborough officiating.  The family will receive friends in the church from 12:00 noon until service time.   Funeral services will be held at 6:00 pm Friday, December 16, 2016 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Rev. Bobby Baker officiating.  The family will receive friends in the chapel from 5:00 pm until service time.   In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to either Vitas Hospice, 7406 Fullerton St., Suite 105, Jax, Fl. 32256 or Seamark Ranch, 3631 Seamark Ranch Rd., Fl-16, Green Cove Springs, 32043.
