Elwin “Vic” Lee Loomis, 86, of Middleburg, FL, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009. He was born on February 13, 1923 in Canton, PA to parents, Edward and Mable Loomis. He was a World War II Veteran and former POW, serving his country in the United States Air Force. He had worked as a Production Engineer on Plant/Design Equipment and had lived in the local area since 1980. Mr. Loomis was a member of Russell Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, golfing and Christmas tree farms. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Edna Grace Loomis. Survivors include his son, Elwin Loomis, Jr. of Minnesota; daughters, Mary Ann Porter of Pennsylvania and Doris Marie Ashbough of Maryland; step-children; Lucinda Baker of Middleburg, FL and Donald Decker and Elmer R. Decker, III, both of Pennsylvania; sister, Rose Marie Waldrip of Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Russell Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 4, 2009 at Russell Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Baker officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
