William "Bill" R. Costa

William “Bill” R. Costa, 82, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away March 24, 2017. Bill was born on January 9, 1935 in Burriville, Rhode Island to the late William and Leafy (LaRose) Costa. He enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 19, proudly serving his country for 8 years and serving during the Korean Conflict.  Bill received the National Defense Service Medal/Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award before being honorably discharged in August of 1961.  He went on to work in civil service at Quonsett Point Naval Base in Rhode Island and later at NAS in Jacksonville, FL as an Aircraft Electrician.  Bill loved working with people and spent some years selling insurance and cars before he retired in 2000.  He is a member of the VFW and Orange Avenue Baptist Church.  Bill was preceded in death by his son, Daniel William Costa; his grandson, Daniel Blake Young and sister, Leafy Costa Lavendier.  He is survived by his children, Stephen Costa and Theresa Young; sisters, Marlene Kennedy and Jean Smith; brother, Cyril “Cy” Costa; brother-in-law, Brian Lavendier; grandchildren, Trenton Young and Melody Young; great-granddaughter, Georgia Mae LaRue and 14 nieces and nephews.
