Dale R. Owen, the beloved husband of Wilma Owen for 48 years, went home to be with the Lord, on September 2, 2009. Dale, the youngest of eight children of Charles James Owen and Amy Coffey Owen, was born in Hamilton, Ohio on December 26, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Charles Owen, Agnes Owen, Marie Basford, Lucille Bower, John P. Owen, Delores Smith, and Bill Owen; a son, Robert Owen; and a great-grandson, Zachary Hill. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; one daughter, Linda Frey (Les) of Henderson, Nevada; three sons, Dale A. (Denise), of Green Cove Springs; Mike (Barbra), of Tennessee; and Charles (Alice) of Green Cove Springs; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Dale served in the United States Navy during World War II as an Electrician’s Mate 2nd Class. As a civilian, he continued in the field of winding motors and sales & service. In 1987, he opened Clay Pump & Industrial Supplies, which the family will continue to operate. Dale became very active on behalf on veterans. As such, became a member of the VFW Post 1988 in Green Cove Springs. He served three terms as Post Commander, as well as numerous other positions at the Post. Dale will be remembered for his quick wit, his generosity, his love of his country, and for how much he loved his family. Services will be held on September 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring Street, Green Cove Springs. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009.
