William "Bill" Carroll Johnson, Sr.

William “Bill” Carroll Johnson, Sr., 79, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009. He was born on December 5, 1929 in Memphis, TN to parents, Willie and Thelma Johnson. Bill was a Korean War veteran, serving his country in the United States Air Force. Bill worked as a management analyst for the social security administration and had lived in the local area for the past year, moving from Pensacola, FL. Bill was an avid country and bluegrass music lover, guitar player and fisherman. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Gary Johnson. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Mary M. Johnson; son, William Carroll Johnson, Jr. (Pauline) of Frederick, MD; daughter, Lea Carole Johnson of Baltimore, MD and grandchildren, Holly Johnson and Melody Moore. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 16, 2009 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating. Military honors will be given at the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
