George F. Barrett, Jr., 72, entered into Heaven on October 15, 2009. Born in Ayer, Massachusetts, George made his home in Florida for the last 30 years. A Registered Nurse by profession, he was a graduate of Worcester Hospital School of Nursing and held a BSN degree from Fitchburg State College. 45 years of nursing practice in mental health and administration took him all over the world, including a tour of duty as a Captain in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. He served as Assistant Vice President of Nursing at University Medical Center (now Shands Jacksonville). In his career, he made a difference in the lives of thousands of patients and staff, always treating every person with dignity and respect. George is survived by Frank B. Bellamy, his loving companion of 27 years; his brothers John M. Barrett of Orange Park, FL, Richard D. Barrett (Alice) of Jacksonville, FL and his sister Anne L. Eckstein (Al) of Fitchburg, MA. He will be interred at the gravesite of his parents at St. Mary’s Church in Ayer, MA. A local memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 2:00 pm at St. John’s Cathedral, 256 E.
