Jacob “Jake” Daniel Griggs, 26, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009. He was born on March 3, 1983 in Jacksonville, FL to parents, Michael and Amy Griggs. Jake was in the Boy Scouts and was an Eagle Scout as well. He was involved in 4-H and enjoyed hunting, fishing, surfing and hiking. Jake graduated from Russell Christian Academy in 2001 and from FCCJ in 2008 with honors. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 2001 to 2005, leaving as an EN3. Jake was currently attending Penn State University where he was studying hydrogeology. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and recently attended Faith Wesleyan Church in Orange Park. Jake was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Jake was preceded in death by his father, Michael P. Griggs and is survived by his mother, Amy Griggs; brother, Mike Griggs; grandmother, Elizabeth Griggs and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, November 27, 2009 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Madaris and Rev. Doug Hemanes officiating. Military honors will be given at the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to your local Boy Scout and 4-H Clubs.
