James “Jimmy” E. Bland, 62, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009. He was born on June 3, 1947 in Bremerton, WA to parents, John and Eva Mae Bland. Mr. Bland has been a Green Cove Springs resident for 56 years and was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He was a Vietnam Veteran, who serviced his country in the United States Army. During his tour of duty he was twice honored, by receiving the Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge. James was also an avid sports fan and was never far from the TV when the Miami Dolphins were playing. Mr. Bland is preceded in death by his father and sister, Sheryl Bland. He is survived by his mother Eva Mea Bland, his loving wife, of 30 years, Carolyn Bland; stepsons, Ronnie Gann and Joe Gann (Elise); stepdaughter Lisa Gilbert; brothers, Raymond Bland (Fay) and Keith Bland (Joyce); sisters, Shirley Forbis (Bob) and Patty Compisi; grandchildren, Charlie, Luke and Chloe and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 4:00 pm, Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Reverend Pat Murphy officiating. Military honors will be given at the service.
