John Orkwis, 91, who will be forever missed and always in our hearts, died peacefully in his sleep New Years Day 2010. He was born on Friday the 13th, December 1918 in Flushing, Queens, New York. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater. Retired from Edward Weck & Co., he worked as a machinist making surgical instruments. He enjoyed golf, playing with his grandchildren, wonderword puzzles and his neighbor’s visits. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 64 years Jane Kasprzak; daughters Victoria, Virginia, Jayne; sons John and Paul; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He will be buried at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with a private gathering of family, friends and neighbors to follow at his home.
