Thomas Allen Shields

Thomas Allen Shields, 49, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010. He was born December 7, 1960 in Patchogue, NY, to parents Edward and Janice Shields. In the early 60’s, Thomas was one of the first patients to receive a ground breaking open heart surgery in the pediatric heart surgery community. Thomas had a generous and loving heart and was always kind to those he met. He devoted his life and time to helping others. Thomas volunteered in many local hospitals and worked closely with the homeless and gave his time to the local soup kitchens. Thomas will always be remembered as a loving son and brother and will be dearly missed by all that knew him. He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law Deputy Eddie Gibson and is survived his parents; brothers, Douglas E. Shields and Mark L. Shields (Jackie); sisters, Jonell Stanford (Mike), Della Jones (Denny) and Jan Gibson; and many nieces and nephews. Thomas may be gone but never forgotten. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Frank Seghers officiating.
