Robert John Smith

Robert John Smith passed away January 9, 2010 in Orange Park, Florida at the age of 84. He was born to Charles and Annie Smith on October 11, 1925 in Newark, New Jersey. Robert joined the Army December 15, 1943 and received an Honorable Discharge April 15, 1946. He received an American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. Robert married Geneva Edith Phillips on October 14, 1950. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2007. They had two sons, Thomas Robert and Richard Dale and one daughter Sandra Lee. Bob and his wife, Then raised their family in Rutherford, NJ. Bob worked many years for Du Mont Laboratories in Clifton, NJ. In 1978 he became part owner and manager of the Turtle Back RV Park in Lake Panasoffkee, FL, retiring in 1988, to Zellwood Station in Zellwood, FL. Bob became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose on November 16, 1978 when he joined the Lake Panasoffkee, FL Lodge #1179. He came to Moosehaven on July 11, 2007 where he resided for 2 years. There will be no service at this time; Robert is to be cremated his ashes and those of his late wife, Geneva to be spread together at a later date. Robert is survived by two sons, Richard Smith of Camarillo, CA, Thomas Summers of Westfield, NJ and one daughter, Sandra Willey of Waldwick, NJ. Robert’s brother, Charles W. Smith, is a resident of Ridgewood, NJ. He is also survived by a brother in law, Herbert Phillips, resident of Moosehaven, Orange Park, FL.
