Abner N. Underwood, Sr.

Abner N. Underwood, Sr. “Papa Nick”, 70, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010. He was born on May 31, 1939 in Penney Farms, FL to parents, Abner and Doris Underwood. He was the founder of Underwood & Sons Pest Control in Green Cove Springs. Mr. Underwood was a member of Russell Baptist Church where he was the Club 100 Sunday School Class Teacher. He enjoyed studying many hours for his weekly Sunday School lessons as well as gardening, fishing and enjoying his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his siblings, Bobby and Roger Underwood and Diana Dekle. Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Helen Underwood; children, Miriam Elaine Robertson (Johnny), Diane Elizabeth Anderson (Doug), Abner N. Underwood, Jr., Michael Larry Underwood (Diane); Robbin Renee McDaniel (Rusty), Kenneth Mark Starling (Jeanna) and Kimberly Jean Thomas (Steve); 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law, June Evelyn “Boots” McLemore (Dawson) and Marie Lamberth. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Russell Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Russell Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery.
