Larry W. Gartin, 71, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010. He was born on July 21, 1938 in Hamlin, WV to parents, Okey and Vena Gartin. He served his country in the United States Air Force and retired as a Facility Technician for Southern Bell. Mr. Gartin had lived in the local area since 1962, moving here from the Philippine Islands after his military service. He was an Elder and song leader at the Chaffee Road Church of Christ for over 30 years. Mr. Gartin enjoyed woodworking, painting, singing and hunting. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and by his son, Gregory Ellis Gartin. Survivors include his mother, Vena Gartin of Georgia; wife, Faye Carroll Gartin of Jacksonville; son, Kenneth Okey Gartin (Linda) of Fort White, FL; daughter, Kari James (Tommy) of Jacksonville, FL; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Chaffee Road Church of Christ with Miles Peeples and Ervon Carroll officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation in the church from 10:00 am Thursday until service time. Interment with military honors will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Chaffee Road Church of Christ Building Fund, 1340 Chaffee Rd. South, Jacksonville, FL 32221.
