Herbert "Herb" Eugene Poovey

Herbert “Herb” Poovey, 77, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Thursday, March 04, 2010. He was born on August 30, 1932 in Hickory, NC to parents Homer and Mary Poovey. He moved to the local area in 1984 from Charlotte, NC. Mr. Poovey honorable served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from AAA Cooper Transportation in Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Poovey was a faithful and loyal member of Lake Shore United Methodist Church where he found his true calling, as the Visitation Minister. His church family will always remember his beautiful voice whether he was singing for a wedding or for a funeral. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing and painting. He was a kind and generous man who was always willing to help a friend in need. Herb will always be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, wonderful grandfather and a child of God. His family will always cherish the wonderful memories of him. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Emma-Jean Poovey; son, Eric Poovey (Erin); daughter, Lesa Jacobs (Richard); brother, Larry Poovey (Conchita); sisters, Nancy Swanger, Suzanne Keever and Deborah Sheppard; grandchildren, Evan, Allen, Olivia, Emma, Connor, Sarah, Brianna, Jude, Beckett and Afton. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his honor to the Hospice of North East Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or to the Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 2246 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210. A memorial services will be held in his honor 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Lake Shore United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Fuller officiating.
