Gerald "Jerry" Smith, Jr.

Gerald “Jerry” Smith, Jr., 84, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010. He was born on April 2, 1925 in Clarksburg, WV to parents, Gerald and Helen Smith. Mr. Smith was a World War II Veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the Marine Corps League. He had worked as an insurance investigator and had lived in the local area since 1980, moving here from Fairmont, WV. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Orange Park, FL as well as a member of Lakeshore Moose Lodge #2020 in Orange Park, FL where he had been the Administrator of the Lodge. Mr. Smith enjoyed reading, golf, collecting hand guns and collecting miniature cars. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty H. Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Catherine R. Smith; sons, Gerald N. Smith III (Vicki), Richard A. Smith and Robert K. Smith (Deborah); daughters, Sandra J. Smith and Nikki Robey (William);grandchildren, Michele, Diana, Adam, Andrew, Kirsten, Robin and Sarah and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Ethan, Elijah, Ethen, Tatum, Abigail and Moira. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Grace Episcopal Church with The Reverend Robert K. Smith and The Reverend Kurt H. Dunkle officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257 and/or Grace Episcopal Church, 245 Kingsley Ave., Orange Park, FL 32073.
