SCPO Colon Wilson Sartin, 87, lovingly known as “Grump”, of Fleming Island, FL, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 15, 2010. He was born on December 13, 1922 in Pleasant Grove, NC to parents, Ezekiel and Minnie Sartin. SCPO Sartin retired from the United States Navy after 39 years of service to his country. He was a World War II, Korean and Vietnam War Veteran. He worked as a recruiter while in the Navy and was instrumental in recruiting over 9000 people. He was a member of the American Legion, Fleet Reserve and the VFW. Grump had lived in the local area for 21 years and was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring antiques and was an avid golfer. Grump loved to spend time with his friends at Publix and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters, Nannie Lou Robertson and Carrie F. Rudd. He is survived by his daughter, Alycia M. Crier; former wife of 44 years, Jeanne M. Sartin; brothers, Lloyd Sartin and twin-brothers, Al and Hal Sartin; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and dear buddy, Bobby Simpson. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Friday, March 19, 2010 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Chaplain Doug Matyi officiating. Visitation with the family will be in the chapel from 5:00 pm until service time. Final services and entombment will be held in Burlington, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
