John Forbes King, Sr., 84, passed away at home at Magnolia Point Golf and Country Club in Green Cove Springs, FL on April 8, 2010. He was born on April 21, 1925 in New Rochelle, NY. After graduating from high school, he was called to military duty, serving in the Navy on active duty from 1943 – 1946 and in the Naval Reserves until 1959. He attended Steven’s Institute of Technology and the University of Louisville, graduating from the Speed School of Engineering in 1946. After leaving active duty he began a rewarding career in the paper industry. He retired in 1985 and went on to enjoy traveling the world with his wife and children. In his spare time he was an avid golfer shooting a hole in one while a member of The Country Club of Darien in Darien, CT. He also enjoyed playing golf at The Royal Montreal Golf Club, where he was a member for 35 years. He is survived by Peggy Fiske King, his wife of 59 years, and six children: Maggie Dee (Michael); John Forbes King, Jr. (Midge); Andrew Duncan King; Mary Gruman (Lowell); Sarah Ann King (Sara Shevel); and James Naughton King. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Meagan Dee; John Forbes King III, Kevin and Kelley King; Hayden and Glynnis King; Lowell, Katherine, Caroline and Charlotte Gruman; and Charles King. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 17th, at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Green Cove Springs. Inurnment will be at a later date with military honors.
