Herbert “Herbie” Ray Gearheart, 65, of Jacksonville, FL went to be with the Lord, June 11, 2010. He was born on January 18, 1945 in Warren, Ohio to parents Paul and Lucy Gearheart. Mr. Gearheart was a Vietnam veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Army. He retired from LTV Steel in 1988. He lived in Southington, OH where he was a member of the Delightful Evangelical Congregational Church. He moved to Jacksonville, Fl. in 1990, with his wife and children. They joined Shindler Drive Baptist Church where he has been a member for the last 20 years, Herb’s great joy has been serving at the church in building and grounds and in the preschool department where he called the children ”My People”. In his spare time he enjoyed watching old black and white movies, old cowboys and most sports on tv. He was an avid sports fan. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, a doting father, and grandfather and a devoted friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Jennifer Gearheart; son, Daniel Gearheart; daughter, Amanda Gearheart; brothers, Dexter (Carol), Norman (Judy) and Phillip (Annie) Gearheart; sisters, Wilma (Bill) Thompson, Polly (Randy) Pigott, Kathie (Tommy) Pigott and Ruth Bertuzzie and grandchildren, Devin, Malachi and Jasmine. .He was precede in death by his parents, two brothers, Larry and Gene (Eleanor) Gearheart and his sister Margie (Harry) Marlow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either church. A memorial service will be held in his honor 11:00 am Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Shindler Drive Baptist Church with Reverend John Green IV officiating. Military honors will confer at the church.
