Norman C. Wood, 56, of Fleming Island, FL passed away on Tuesday June 15, 2010 in Fleming Island, FL. He was born on August 25, 1953 to parents Charles Adelbert and Mary Elizabeth Wood. Norman served his country honorably from 1974 to 1999 in the United States Army and Navy. While serving his country in the US Navy, he volunteered for active duty during Desert Storm. Seventeen years of his service was working as a drilling reservist. Norman was employed by Duval County public school system from 1987-1996 as a teacher. He was awarded Teacher of the Year at Stilwell Middle/Junior High School 1994-1995. Norman was an Instructor at Remington College from 2000-2007. He was currently working in the insurance industry. Norman enjoyed playing the guitar and singing in the Fleming Island Presbyterian Church praise band. He was the co-founder of Joyful Noise, a contemporary praise band at Asbury United Methodist Church. One of Norman’s greatest joys was volunteering with the Salvation Army. Every November and December since 2001, he would play his guitar and sing for hours favorite holiday songs by the kettle. His parents and a brother preceded him in death. He was a loving and devoted husband who will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 31 years Iris Wood; father and mother in law, Richard and Ella Till; brother and sister in law, Richard Jr. and Jennifer Till. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 25, 2010 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Jim Weldon officiating. Inurnment with Military honors follow at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Fleming Island Presbyterian Music Fund 1743 CR 220 Fleming Island, FL 32003.
