Lilla Brooks Hughes, 69, of Orange Park, FL passed away Monday, June 21, 2010. She was born March 31, 1941 in Clermont, KY to parents Russell and Nancy Amos. Mrs. Hughes moved to the local area in 1947 from Kentucky. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Orange Park. Lilla was a Sunday School Teacher and a paid nursery worker. She always said her favorite job was rocking the newborn babies in the nursery. Mrs. Hughes was also a Breast Cancer survivor who fought her illness to the end. She enjoyed word search puzzles and going out to lunch with the girls. People always said she should have been a Professional Restaurant Critic, she knew who had the best sweet tea in town and where to get the best food. Mrs. Hughes loved her grandchildren and would do anything for them. They would pretend to be sick, just so grandma would come get them from school and take them out to lunch. Lilla will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Ellis D. Hughes; sons, Donald (Linda) and Thomas Hughes; daughters, Lisa Hughes and Vivian (Mark) Samuels; sister, Betty Jo (Jack) Huntley; grandchildren, Sherrie, Maria, Cierra, Jacqueline, Ellis, Mark, Jr., Jaron, Quante, Cy and Kimora; great grandchildren, Leilani, Maverick, Melissa, Memphis, Makaylin and a boy on the way.
