Marty "Sarge" Mattson

Marty “Sarge” Mattson, 72, of Fleming Island, FL passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010. He was born on September 18, 1937 in Duluth, MN to parents Martin and Bolette Mattson. “Sarge” honorably served his country honorably in the United States Army and retired after 27 years of service as a Master Sergeant E8. Marty moved to the local area in 1991 from San Antonio, TX. He was a member of the VFW in Bay Springs, MI and Sons of Norway. “Sarge” was a man known to always have the last word. His family will tell that he could be very stubborn. He will be remembered as a loving father and grampy. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Diane Leslie Mattson (2009) and is survived by his daughters, Kristin Mattson, Karin Mattson and Lynne (Bill) Duffield; grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremiah, Kera, Breanne, Catherine, Emma and Audrey and great grandchildren, Jaden and Gavin is on the way. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Memorial Lutheran Church, 3375 US 1 South, St. Augustine, FL 32086 with Reverend Dr. Kerry G. Hinkley officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time. Military honors will be conferred at the church.
