Nevin C. Mayer, 80, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away July 13, 2010. He was born on August 11, 1929 in Apple Creek, OH to parents, Dr. Nevin and Mable Mayer. Mr. Mayer was a Korean War Veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He had been an Independent Dealer of Mayer Sohio Service Station in East Cleveland, OH and moved to the local area in 1997. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Fleming Island and enjoyed boating, yard work, reading and studying about the Civil War as well as traveling to Civil War historic sites. Mr. Mayer was a volunteer for the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Gloria DeJovine Mayer; children, Nevin Joseph Mayer of Cleveland, OH, Richard Michael Mayer of Jacksonville, FL and Joan Marie Mayer of Jacksonville, FL and his brother, David Paul Mayer of Chicago, IL. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Donal Sullivan as Celebrant. Inurnment with military honors will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257 and/or Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs, 1107 Martin Luther King Junior Blvd.
