Alan Mills Spring

May 12, 1964 — August 1, 2023

Alan M. Spring, 59, of Cayo, Belize, passed away on August 1, 2023, in Archer, Florida. He was born on May 12, 1964, in Deland, Florida and was the son of William H. and Jane (Brooks) Spring.

Alan served in the U.S. Army before becoming a bounty hunter and private investigator. He successfully owned and operated the private investigation firm Covert Consultants, Inc. for two decades before following his dream to move to Belize with his wife, Colleen (Karney), whom he married in 1998. While in Belize, he and Colleen built and ran an award-winning eco lodge that served thousands of curious travelers and nature lovers for more than 15 years. He was proud to have founded the Mahogany Reforestation Project on Table Rock Jungle Lodge’s grounds and to have assisted countless school children with school supplies, tech donations, and wildlife education each year.

He was beloved by his staff and community in Belize, and was a staunch proponent and lover of history, the US Constitution, and 2nd Amendment rights. Alan will always be remembered and appreciated for his guidance and mentorship, his amazing love for his family, his passion for the LA Rams and Florida Gators, his affection for donkeys and snakes, his love for music, his smooth dance moves, and his adventurous spirit.

He is preceded in death by his son, Thomas Jackson Spring; mother, Jane Spring; and grandparents, QP & Mattie Lou Brooks.

Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Colleen Karney Spring; his pride and joy, his son, Samuel Alan Spring; his father, William H. Spring; his sister, Jill Spring; his in-laws, Patrick and Mary Karney; his sister-in-law, Katie Karney Dancesia (Chris); his brothers-in-law, Brian Karney (Kim), Shannon Karney (Amy); and Patrick C.
